KBA Classic XI edged an enthralling battle at Montagu Park on Friday afternoon as they beat CSKBA Moscow 5-4 in a fiery match. Both teams had the advantage playing with the wind in seperate halves and Classic XI took full use of this in the first half scoring four of their five goals in the first half. The first goal came when Owen Rees took advantage of a fumble from Moscow keeper' Tom Kilsby, as he pounced on a dropped ball to give Classic XI the lead.
Less than 8 minutes later, Wilson doubled the lead when he slotted the ball past Kilsby, before grabbing Classic XI's third by embarassing Kilsby even further, by slotting the ball through the keeper's legs to give Classic XI a comfortable lead. On the 33rd minute, Josh Thorley got in on the act, grabbing his first goal for KBA Classic. Mitchel Speirs' run into the box, enabled Thorley to free himself in the centre, deflecting a shot past Kilsby to give KBA Classic XI a comfortable 4-0 lead at half-time.
Moscow manager Jack Gardner rung the changes at half-time and this came to effect early on in the second half. Captain Liam Wood scored the first of his three goals with a wonderful left foot effort that curled into the top corner, leaving Classic XI keeper' Henton no chance as Moscow fought their way back into the game. 8 minutes later, Wood scored his second of the game, with an excellent finish past Henton, as manager Gardner screamed at his players to push on and keep fighting. Moscow's persistence paid off as Wood grabbed his hat-trick goal on the hour mark, again leaving Henton no chance as Moscow were now within one goal of getting level. Ingram bought on new signing Man Lok Lee, fresh off the plane from DingDong-Doo Warriors. Lee made some excellent challenges as Classic XI fought off the attack from Moscow over the next few minutes.
Classic XI then made a quick breakaway, Wilson slotting the ball over for Oliver to run onto, where he took it round the defender and chipped Kilsby from 15 yards out to extend Classic XI's lead to 5-3. Moscow striker Luke Gibson grabbed the last goal of the afternoon, after a mix up between Pearce and Henton allowed Gibson to poke home into an empty net, but Classic XI held on to the win.
